The MoECSY follows the definition defined by the Maastricht Global Education Declaration. Global Education is combined with values and principles, skills and competences for a world with justice and equity and sustainability, and is related with citizenship education, human rights education, peace education, gender equality, education for the environment and sustainable development. Moreover, under Global Education falls the prevention of racism, of school violence and more specifically of school bullying.

+ GE Specific Budget
There is no specific GE budget. In 2018, as part of the GENE Increase programme Co-funding mechanism a national GE budget was created with 5.000 Euro in 2018 and 8.000 in 2020. GENE has contributed to the Co-funding mechanism with 70.000 Euro in 2018.
Global Education in Cyprus is funded through the government, through the European Commission/EuropeAID, Erasmus+, the United Nations and through a small number of other external funds and private foundations. Wherever Global Education appears in the curriculum or in teacher training from the Pedagogical Institute, funding comes through the government and is part of the annual education budget approved by the House of Representatives. Since the majority of Global Education is integrated into the formal education system, it is difficult to separate that funding information from the overall education budget.

+ GE in Formal Education
The vision of the MoECSY is ‘the development of literate citizens with skills, responsibility, democratic ethos, historical identity, but also respect for diversity. Citizens with an all-around personality, able to contribute creatively to the development of society and to meet the challenges of the future, as well as to improve the quality of the life of citizens through education, culture and sports and the empowerment of youth.
Global education is applied at all levels of education through the official Curriculum (through cross-cutting themes such as Health Education and Citizenship Education). Further policies related to human rights and peace education, citizenship, intercultural and antiracist education and prevention of violence are being developed by the Pedagogical Institute and/or the Directorates of the Ministry, and are applied in school units through the Curriculum and everyday life.
Education for the environment and sustainability is coordinated by the Unit of Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development.
Global Education is included in teachers continuous training, which is developed and implemented by the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute.
